ONE OF THE FINEST WORLD ATLASES issued in Italy in the 18th century.
A comprehensive world atlas, with three volumes covering Europe (including Russia) and the fourth volume the rest of the world. The maps include Mitchell’s map of America on 12 sheets, a suite of European maps, county maps of Kent, Middlesex, Essex and Surrey, and various maps of Africa, Asia, Australasia, and of the Ancient world. Those of Australasia follow Cook’s latest discoveries. It was designed to accompany Büsching’s geographical treatise Erdbeschreibung in Italian translation (published by Zatta in 1773-1782 in 34 volumes), hence the appearance of Büsching’s name on the spines of this copy.
