Shipping & returns
Delivery, and what to do if you wish to return an item.
Shipping
Delivery is charged once per order: £3.35 in the UK, £6.90 to Europe and £11.40 to the rest of the world. Orders where the books come to £1,000 or more (after any discount) are delivered free, wherever they are going. The delivery charge is shown at checkout before you pay.
UK orders are normally sent by a next working day delivery service once payment has cleared. Overseas orders go by courier with online tracking. We will confirm by email when your order has been despatched and pass on the tracking details.
Every item is packed by hand: wrapped, padded against movement and boxed, with extra protection for fragile bindings, loose plates and anything oversized. Insurance covers the item from the moment it leaves us until it reaches you.
Deliveries outside the United Kingdom
We ship worldwide. Delivery times depend on the destination and on customs clearance, and are normally a matter of days rather than weeks.
Any customs duty, import tax or carrier handling fee raised in the destination country is charged by that country and is the responsibility of the buyer. We declare every shipment accurately and completely. If you would like an idea of what to expect before you order, ask us and we will tell you what we can.
If your order is damaged or does not arrive
Tell us straight away, before you do anything else, and keep the box and all the packing material exactly as it arrived. Photographs of the damage and of the packaging help. Every shipment is insured and we will put it right, by replacement where that is possible and by refund where it is not.
If your order has not arrived within the expected time, contact us and we will trace it with the carrier.
Your right to cancel
If you are a consumer buying at a distance, you may cancel your order within 30 days of the day you receive it, without giving any reason. This is longer than the 14 days the law requires. You then have a further 14 days to send the item back to us.
To cancel, simply tell us in a clear statement before the 30 days are up: an email to info@marshallrarebooks.com is enough, or you may use the cancellation form below. Telling us by the deadline is what matters; the item does not have to be back with us by then.
Your statutory rights are included in this, and nothing on this page reduces them.
Returning an item
Please tell us before sending anything back, so that we can advise on the safest way to return it. Send the item by the same or a similar method to the one it came by, packed as carefully as it was packed for you, and keep proof of posting. We recommend insuring the return for the value of the item.
Please return the item in the same condition in which you received it. You are responsible for the cost of returning an item you have simply changed your mind about. If the item was not as we described it, or arrived damaged, we pay the return carriage.
Refunds
Once the item is back with us and we have checked that it is in the same condition, we refund in full, including the original delivery cost, to the same card or account you paid from. We will do this within 14 days of receiving the item back.
Our guarantee
Separately from any right to cancel, we guarantee the authenticity of everything we sell. If an item ever proves not to be as we described it, return it and we will refund it in full. We are members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, whose codes of practice govern how we describe and guarantee what we sell.
Cancellation form
If you wish to cancel, you may find it easiest to copy our cancellation form and send it to us. You do not have to use it: any clear statement will do.
