A decorative large map of Ireland, showing many villages, mountains, lakes and other interesting sites. Visscher’s map of Ireland served as the model for Johann Baptiste Homann, Gerald Valk and Petrus Schenk.
Nicolaes Visscher II was a Dutch engraver, cartographer and publisher. Son of Nicolaes I, he continued the family business of mapmaking and publishing. He received general privilege of the States of Holland and West Friesland in 1682. After his death, his wife, Elisabeth, continued the shop until selling the engraved plates to Peter Schenk. Schenk re-published the plates under his own name.
