Thomas Henry Tizard (1839-1924), oceanographer and hydrographic surveyor, entered the Royal Navy in 1854. Tizard served in the Baltic during the Crimean War. In 1860 he was appointed to the surveying vessel Rifleman in the South China Seas, later having Tizard Bank named after him. Between 1872 and 1876 he served on board HMS Challenger, and was the author of several portions of the Challenger Reports. Throughout his career, Tizard wrote many papers of scientific value and interest, including lectures on Marine Surveying and Hydrographic Surveying.

A scarce work.
