The Golden Plover (Pluvialis apricaria) is a beautiful, medium-sized wading bird famous in the UK for its striking gold-and-black breeding plumage on upland moors (Scotland, northern England, Wales) and its large, social winter flocks on lowland farms and coasts, often with Lapwings. They feed on insects and berries, nest on open ground, and are a Green-listed species (Birds of Conservation Concern), protected under UK law, with distinct summer (golden/black) and winter (buff/white) plumages.
